새로운 여행 필수품: EVA 케이스로 달라지는 패킹

A travel retail buyer in Amsterdam asked a simple question in April: why do packed cubes still arrive with crushed sunglasses and tangled cables. The answer is that most packing organizers are fabric - they compress, and whatever is softest in the bag loses. Molded EVA does not compress, and that one property changes how a carry-on behaves.

Three Pieces, Not One Big Case

The set we built for her was three pieces, because one large case recreates the original problem at a smaller scale. A shallow cable shell, roughly 240 x 160 x 45 mm (about 9.4 x 6.3 x 1.8 in), holds a charger, two cables and a power bank in separate die-cut channels. A toiletry shell near 220 x 150 x 90 mm has a wipe-clean lining, since a leaking bottle inside a fabric organizer is the usual reason travel cases get thrown away. The third piece is a tablet sleeve built on the same shell platform.

Dimensions are set against real sizer frames rather than marketing numbers. A 45 mm deep cable case slips into the gap beside a rolled shirt; a 90 mm toiletry shell fits the corner of a standard cabin trolley. Against a typical 7 kg carry-on allowance the three shells together weigh in the region of 600-750 g, which matters more than buyers expect once an airline starts weighing bags at the gate.

What Molded Shells Do That Fabric Organizers Do Not

Crush resistance is the obvious one. A molded shell at 0.18-0.22 g/cm3 with a 1.5-2.5 mm wall holds its shape under stacked load, so eyewear and anything with a hinge survive at the bottom of a bag. The second is cleanability: a PU leather or Oxford laminate over EVA wipes down, while fabric absorbs. The third is that a rigid case can be found by touch in a dark hotel room, which sounds minor until anyone has unpacked at 1 a.m.

Hardware gets specified for travel duty rather than storage duty. Zippers on travel cases are opened daily instead of seasonally, so we test to 5,000 cycles and use a metal or heavy-duty synthetic slider on the main compartment. Handles are small webbing loops pull-tested to 20 kg, enough for a wet toiletry shell lifted by one corner. Where a case will sit on a bathroom counter, we verify sealing to IP54, which covers splashes but not immersion.

Compliance for travel retail is mostly about materials. Compounds carry RoHS and REACH declarations, and anything marketed to children - a small EVA accessory or pencil case - is checked against EN 71. Our EVA eyeglasses case line is where most of this set starts, because eyewear is the item travelers complain about first.

Buyers building a full travel range usually expand sideways rather than upward: the tablet case range covers the flat device, and the makeup trolley box serves the checked-bag end of the same program.

The Amsterdam order shipped in June with all three shells in one master carton, and the follow-up enquiry was for a fourth piece: a laundry shell with a vented panel, currently at the foam-fitting stage.

자주 묻는 질문

What makes EVA cases better than fabric packing cubes?
Molded EVA does not compress, so fragile items at the bottom of a bag are not crushed by whatever sits above them. The laminated surface wipes clean instead of absorbing a leaked bottle, and a rigid shell is easy to find by touch. Typical shells use 0.18-0.22 g/cm3 sheet with 1.5-2.5 mm walls.
What size EVA travel case fits a carry-on?
Shallow organizers around 240 x 160 x 45 mm fit beside rolled clothing, and a toiletry shell near 220 x 150 x 90 mm fits the corner of a standard cabin trolley. Three shells together typically weigh 600-750 g, which matters against a 7 kg carry-on allowance.
Are EVA travel cases water resistant?
Travel shells are commonly verified to IP54, which covers dust and splashes such as a wet bathroom counter. IP65 immersion protection needs a gasketed zipper track and a different closure, and costs more. Zippers are tested to about 5,000 cycles because travel cases get opened daily rather than seasonally.
