EVA 케이스의 다목적성: 귀중품을 감각적으로 보호

A brand manager in Rotterdam sent over three Pantone references and one instruction: the case has to look like it belongs next to the product, not behind it. Everything after that is a manufacturing problem, because a fabric-laminated foam shell takes print, emboss and edge binding differently from the folding carton most packaging designers are used to specifying.

The shell is a finished surface

Colour matching starts with the laminate, not with ink. A 600D polyester carrying a matte PU coating shifts tone once it goes through heat forming, so we aim at a signed physical chip rather than a screen value, and about one Delta E across production is a realistic ask for foam-backed fabric. Logos get applied four ways at this factory: hot deboss with a brass die at roughly 140 to 160 C and 8 to 12 seconds, screen print for flat artwork, a rubber patch sewn on, or a small metal badge set into the shell. Each has its own cost curve, and the deboss tooling pays for itself somewhere around three to four thousand units.

What touches the product

The surface customers see is half the job. The other half is whatever touches the item inside: brushed tricot for sunglasses and camera bodies, velvet for watch pads and jewellery trays, flock for anything that should feel matte and dry. Polyester fleece is cheap and sheds lint, which is exactly what you do not want beside a coated lens. Ring rolls in a jewellery case need channels cut around 20 to 25 mm wide so metal does not travel across metal.

Where presentation meets structure

Appearance claims need testing like everything else. Dark fabric gets checked for colour transfer to a pale lining at grade 4 or better, any metal badge goes through a nickel release check because contact restrictions apply under REACH, and anything destined for a shop window gets a UV exposure look at how much tone shifts under retail lighting. None of that shows up on a rendering, and all of it shows up in a returned batch.

Some products cannot be carried in a soft shell at all. Make-up artists working out of a salon van need a frame that takes a load, so those jobs go to extruded profiles with metal corner guards, ABS panel inserts and lockable closures, sometimes a full trolley with wheels and a telescopic handle rated for a couple of dozen kilograms. Our aluminium vanity cases and sewn cosmetic cases sit at opposite ends of the same brief, and the choice usually comes down to whether anybody will ever check the case in at an airport.

The middle ground is where appearance and protection genuinely pull together, and premium audio is the clearest example. A high-end pair of headphones ships in a shell that has to look right on a retail shelf and survive parcel handling, so it gets a 4 mm wall, a tricot cavity and a hidden zipper track, an approach shared across our headphone case range.

The swatch set going out to a Danish customer this week has four laminates in it, two deboss options quoted, and a note from the production manager that gets written almost every time: pick the surface after seeing it formed, not before.

자주 묻는 질문

Can the colour of an EVA case be matched to our brand?
Yes, up to a point. Foam-backed fabric shifts tone during forming, so we match against a signed physical swatch and hold roughly one Delta E across production. Logos can be hot debossed, screen printed, sewn on as a rubber patch, or fitted as a metal badge, each with its own tooling charge and unit cost.
Which lining suits jewellery and watches?
Velvet is the usual answer for jewellery trays and watch pads because it resists rub marks and does not shed lint onto polished surfaces. Flocked tricot suits smaller consumer cases where a matte look matters. Ring roll channels are typically cut 20 to 25 mm wide so pieces do not touch during transport.
When should we choose an aluminium frame case over a sewn case?
Choose an aluminium frame with ABS panels and corner guards when the case will be stacked, checked in, or loaded past roughly 15 kg, since a fabric hinge will not take that load. A sewn EVA shell wins on weight and cost for carry-on, retail shelves and anything lifted by hand every day.
