OEM 마케팅

The enquiry came in on a Monday in February 2024: a German DIY chain wanted a private-label EVA tool case for its spring catalogue, and it needed artwork, specification sheets and the compliance pack in less than six weeks. The product itself was not difficult. The marketing file was.

What OEM Marketing Actually Consists Of

For a factory, OEM marketing is not advertising. It is the set of documents and assets a brand buyer needs to put our product on their shelf under their name: dimensioned drawings, a materials declaration, test reports, packaging artwork in their template, and photography shot to their catalogue standard. When that pack is late, the listing is late and the launch date moves. We learned this the expensive way a few years ago on an order that shipped on time and still missed the catalogue because barcode artwork was two days behind.

So the file starts on day one now. The sales desk opens a job folder with the drawing, the material spec, the foam layout, the hardware list and the target test standard. Anything the customer's own team has to defend to a retail compliance portal - RoHS and REACH declarations, CTI reports, the ISO 9001 certificate, the SGS audit summary - goes into that folder at quoting stage rather than after approval.

The Audit Is Part of the Pitch

The German buyer's process included a factory audit, and the visit covered what we expected: the incoming-material bench, mold maintenance records, the 100 percent inspection station, chemical storage and fire provisions. It also covered things we had not packaged before - hour records and the wastewater arrangement. A first audit is uncomfortable; the second one is a marketing asset, because the report can be shown to the next buyer. We keep an audit pack ready for exactly that reason.

On the same trip the buyer walked the molding bank and asked a question we now hear often: what happens when the tooling wears out. The honest answer is that a cavity wears measurably after roughly 100,000 cycles, the flash line thickens, and the parting face gets skimmed during a scheduled maintenance window. Ownership of the tool, and who pays for refurbishment, belongs in the contract before the first shot is fired.

What the Private-Label Program Looks Like

Their case ended up as a 380 mm shell in 0.22 g/cm3 sheet with a two-level die-cut foam insert, a webbing handle pull-tested to 20 kg, and a YKK zipper specified because the catalogue claimed a long service life. Unit pricing settled at the 3,000 tier. Artwork was printed on the molded front panel rather than applied as a label, which removed a production step and stopped the edges lifting. The same base shell now supports two more SKUs in their range, one built on our EVA tool case platform and one closer to the game console case format for their electronics aisle. Photography was the last piece. Retailers want the case shot with the tool inside, open, at a fixed angle, and they want it before the catalogue closes - which means the first production shell has to be pulled off the line and sent to the studio rather than shipped. We now budget for that in the sample stage.

The spring catalogue shipped on schedule. The order that followed was not a repeat of the first: it was a 450 mm version with a different foam program, and the tooling for it is being cut this month.

자주 묻는 질문

What does OEM marketing mean for an EVA case factory?
It means supplying everything a brand needs to sell our product under its own name: dimensioned drawings, material declarations, RoHS and REACH documents, test reports, packaging artwork in the buyer's template and catalogue-standard photography. It is document delivery, not advertising, and late paperwork delays a listing even when production runs on time.
What happens during a factory audit at LIANPING?
Audits cover the incoming-material bench, mold maintenance records, the 100 percent inspection station, chemical storage and fire provisions, plus labor and hour records. The quality system is certified to ISO 9001 and an SGS factory audit is held on file. Buyers may visit the Gaobu facility, and the resulting report can be reused with later customers.
Who owns the tooling in an ODM project?
Usually the customer owns the cavity because they paid for it, while the factory maintains it. A cavity typically needs the parting face skimmed after roughly 100,000 cycles as the flash line thickens. Refurbishment cost and responsibility should be written into the contract before first sampling, not negotiated once wear appears.
