A distributor in Osaka asked us for 3,000 units of a handheld console case that could survive being thrown into a school backpack by a twelve-year-old, then asked the question that decides the whole project: will the screen be loaded when the case lands on its corner? That question sets the cavity depth, the corner radius and the foam grade, in that order. The first sample came back with 3 mm of clearance over the analogue sticks and a lid pad that pressed nowhere near the display.

## Cavity geometry before decoration

Handheld consoles in the 240 by 105 mm footprint class, the size range covered by popular handheld game devices, share one problem: the sticks and shoulder buttons stick up further than anything else in the kit. Supporting the shell on its screen means the cavity has to be cut around the controls, not around the body outline. We scan the device itself, then cut the die-cut EVA cavity so the load lands on the flat back panel and the perimeter. Shells for this job run 0.18-0.22 g/cm3 at about Shore C 60, and the routine drop check is 1.2 m on six faces, three times each.

## What goes in besides the console

- Game cards: 8 to 12 moulded slots in a lift-out tray, sized so a card comes out with a fingertip and stays put when the case is shaken

- Cables: a mesh pocket in the lid for the USB-C lead and charger, kept away from the screen side

- Carry: webbing handle or a detachable shoulder strap with a 25 mm webbing, plus a carabiner hook for the outside of a backpack

- Extras: a moulded recess for spare thumb grips, and a wipe-clean lining because these cases get used on trains

We build cases sized to fit devices in that footprint class and supply them to brands and distributors as their own accessory line. We are not an official licensee of those console brands and do not sell branded products. Send us the device or its dimensions and we cut the cavity to fit; logos on the case belong to you, not to the console maker.

**What drop protection does a game console EVA case give?**

Our standard check is 1.2 m onto concrete, six faces, three drops per face, with the device loaded. The shell is EVA sheet at roughly 0.18-0.22 g/cm3 and Shore C 60, and the cavity is cut so impact load lands on the device back and perimeter instead of the screen or the analogue sticks.
